Shortly after starting my business in 2007, I learned about San Francisco Department of the Environment’s Green Business program certification in the store’s publication, “Hardware Hotline.” At the time, I wondered if it was possible to bring my nascent endeavor to this level and formally integrate my values of sustainability and community into the business. It turns out the answer was yes. My business was first certified in 2008. Last year, I attained Green Business Innovator certification level.
