Day 18 of the Ecocity 30-Day Zero Waste Challenge is to compost. Complying with the law and composting food waste and soiled paper is pretty darn easy in San Francisco. The biggest challenge/change in our household over the past couple of years has been the transition away from bags made from bioplastics. It was a conversation with a beloved organic farmer who despised the bags and the residual bioplastics in the compost he bought to make us shift our ways. The alternative: we use brown paper stuffing from packages that has been flattened and cut to size for lining the pail used for collecting food scraps in the kitchen. We also use paper bread bags and random paper bags that would otherwise be recycled without being put to good use.
Tomorrow’s challenge: clean your neighborhood
